making it happen

Cities that are safe and convenient for bikers and walkers are healthy places to live. Their downtowns are vital, with busy sidewalks and bicycle lanes. Their neighborhoods are safe, with more people on the streets to keep an eye on things. Kids and adults are healthy from the regular exercise.

Here are some of the great programs that are helping to build bike friendly communities.

WE Bike NYC - Open to all women, WE Bike aims to lessen the barriers to entry to cycling through social and training rides, mechanics workshops and ride scholarships.

Safe Routes To School
- Through the "4 E's",  Engineering, Education, Enforcement and Encouragement, SRTS programs make walking and biking to school safer, more convenient and fun.

Complete Streets - Streets are for everyone. But too many of our streets are designed only for speeding cars. Complete Streets sets the standard for safe and convenient streets for all users.

Great Local and Regional Bike Plans - These state and local communities have done a great job planning how to make and remake their cities to be safe and convenient for bikers and everyone else.
