Planet Bike Continues Support of Trips For Kids on Mar 18, 2008

Madison, Wisc.- Planet Bike a leading manufacturer of innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories, once again supported Trips For Kids in 2007 by making a $33,000 product donation.

"Trips for Kids represents exactly what we look for in a partnership; passion for the bicycle, and a willingness to share that with those who might not otherwise get a chance to appreciate it," said Planet Bike''s Advocacy Coordinator Jay Ferm.

The donation, which included lights, locks, pumps and fenders, will be sold in the Trips for Kids'' Re-Cyclery shop in San Rafael, CA.  The shop''s sales account for two-thirds of all Trips for Kids'' funding.  Additionally, the Re-Cyclery provides area youth with an opportunity to participate in the Trips for Kids'' after-school and Earn-A-Bike programs.

Trips for Kids, founded in Marin, California in 1988 by Marilyn Price, provides the equipment, moral support and encouragement that at-risk/disadvantaged kids need to help them discover the joys of mountain biking and environmental awareness through mountain bike rides and Earn-A-Bike programs. There are currently 57 Trips for Kids chapters operating in the U.S. and Canada. Planet Bike has partnered with Trips for Kids since 1999.

Price got to know Planet Bike founder Bob Downs in the 1990s when the two found that they shared a passion for the bicycle as a tool for social and environmental change.  "It''s wonderful what Planet Bike does for advocacy in the bicycling industry. We appreciate the donation of items on our wish list to fund the program," said Price.

Planet Bike builds high quality bicycle accessories that make it easier for people to ride their bikes. Since its inception in 1996, Planet Bike has believed in the potential of the bicycle to improve the world and the lives of the people in it. Therefore, each year it has donated at least 25% of profits to causes that promote and facilitate the use of the bicycle. By the end of 2008, Planet Bike will have donated more than $650,000 to the grassroots advocacy movement.
