Planet Bike Commends Cannondale and Bikes Belong on Aug 28, 2008

Madison, Wisc.- August 28, 2008 - Planet Bike, a leading manufacturer of innovative, high quality, and practical bicycle accessories, is delighted by the recent news that the Cannondale Cycling Group and Bikes Belong have pledged their support to the Thunderhead Alliance with a $200,000 contribution for 2009.  In response, Planet Bike has increased its 2009 commitment to Thunderhead to match Cannondale's pledge of $125,000.

Planet Bike feels that a key ingredient to successfully growing biking in America is grassroots bicycle advocacy.  Grassroots bicycle advocacy, as practiced by Thunderhead's 138 member organizations, has played key roles in improving cycling infrastructure and policies in countless communities across North America in the past 10 years.  Thunderhead recruits, trains and supports grassroots bicycle activists. They bring together the best strategies, tactics, and research, and then impart this experience and knowledge to its member organizations.  "In the United States, transportation decisions are primarily made at the local level," said Jay Ferm, Advocacy Coordinator for Planet Bike. "That's why strong local advocates are key to creating more bike friendly communities."

Planet Bike is pleased that Cannondale and Bike Belong have identified the Thunderhead Alliance as a worthy partner in making North America a better place for cyclists.  "We commend Cannondale and Bikes Belong for making this commitment," said Bob Downs the president of Planet Bike.  "We feel this is hugely important to supporting the long-term vision and creative thinking of the Thunderhead Alliance organization."  The company's increased pledge for 2009, brings Planet Bike's combined advocacy donations to $800,000 over the past twelve years and brings it one step closer to achieving its goal of donating a total of $1 million by 2010.

Planet Bike designs high quality bicycle accessories that make it easier and safer for people to ride their bikes.  Since its inception in 1996, Planet Bike has believed that the bicycle can improve our environment and our quality of life.  Therefore, each year it has donated at least 25% of profits to causes that promote and facilitate the use of bicycles. Since its founding, Planet Bike will have donated more than $800,000 to the grassroots advocacy movement.
