Wisconsin Trails in Jeopardy

Posted on Jan 4th 2012 | Advocacy, Bike Life, Blog,

The trails at Upper Hixon Forest in La Crosse, WI, could be closed by a potential sale of city-owned property. Human Powered Trails, a member-based club in the La Crosse area, has put tremendous effort into creating a wonderful shared-use trail system on the bluffs above the river city. The club is fighting hard to save the trails — please join them.

The Upper Hixon Forest property has long been managed as a park by the city — however the site has not yet been officially designated as a park. Housing developers have expressed an interest in purchasing the property, which would likely spell the end to trail access.

IMBA and leaders of Human Powered Trails are asking for your support at an upcoming series of meetings at City Hall:

* Highways, Properties and Utilities Meeting on Jan. 4 at 7:30 PM
* Committee as a Whole Session on Jan. 10 at 7:30 PM
* Council Meeting on Thurs., Jan. 12, at 7:30 PM
